Network Engineer

What’s in your future as a Network Engineer?  Network Engineers are responsible for engineering, designing, planning, and evaluating data and voice network requirements including new equipment selection, requirement specifications, requirement gathering, system integration, design selection, alternative recommendations, cost, acceptance testing, scheduling, and support. In this role, you will actively participate in projects, cross functional areas, and support other departments. 

Network Engineers are also responsible for the following:

• Understanding networking systems such as LAN, WAN, firewalls, routers, and printers.
• Analyzing and evaluating networks, identifying issues, and providing solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently.
• Designing, implementing, and troubleshooting networks and security infrastructure.
• Managing several projects simultaneously from a design to implementation.
• Communicating technical information to other technical team members and coworkers in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking terminology.

Certifications/Licensures:  Must have a valid state driver’s license. Network Engineers may also be required to obtain additional certifications. Certifications that may be valuable to Network Engineers include but are not limited to: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

This position may have varied levels of responsibilities and pay opportunities. Consideration of relevant skills, knowledge, and prior experience are factors used to determine selection and placement of applicant.
